True Friendship and the Importance of Good Conduct

Real friendship means lifting each other up, not dragging down

In human life, companionship and friends hold immense importance. Our behavior, thoughts, and emotions are heavily influenced by the people we surround ourselves with.

As the saying goes, “A true friend is one who leads you away from wickedness and towards righteousness.” If a friend brings bad habits and poor conduct into your life, they are not truly a friend—they are a form of silent destruction.

Your Company Shapes Your Mind

Many people give up alcohol, gambling, or other bad habits after listening to spiritual discourses or attending satsang (spiritual gatherings). However, if they return to the same old company, they often relapse into their previous ways. This proves how deeply influential company is.

“Whose intellect hasn’t been corrupted by bad company?” — this is not just a question; it’s a warning. If we want to preserve our good conduct, it is crucial to stay away from those who drag us down.

The True Definition of Friendship

If your friends truly love and care for you, they will accept your advice and be inspired by your good values. Try to speak to them lovingly, respectfully, and help them understand the value of a good life. But if they still refuse to change, then do not hesitate to walk away from that relationship.

True friendship is not about being bound to someone even if they ruin you. It’s about uplifting one another and walking the path of virtue together.

Protecting Your Good Conduct Is the Greatest Responsibility

Your good character is your greatest asset. If you continue to stay in bad company, your values will gradually weaken, and eventually, you will become like them.

Company has a lasting impact. That’s why one must always stay alert—seek good company, listen to wisdom, and nurture your inner goodness.
